October 23 marks Sōkō, or “Frost’s Descent,” one of the 24 seasonal divisions in Japan’s traditional calendar.

It signals the deepening of autumn and the approach of winter.

Based on the sun’s movement throughout the year, these 24 divisions offer a way to appreciate the subtle changes between the four seasons.

Lately, the mornings and evenings have begun to feel cooler.

Although the leaves in Charyo Ichimatsu’s garden have yet to change color noticeably,

you might spot small signs of autumn when you take a closer look.

At WASAKO, we choose wagashi—traditional Japanese sweets—with designs inspired by autumn leaves, including ginkgo and Japanese maple. Before taking your first bite, take a moment to enjoy their delicate shapes and colors.

As the weather turns cooler, join us for a warming bowl of matcha in the welcoming comfort of a traditional Japanese tatami room at Charyo Ichimatsu.

We look forward to welcoming you to WASAKO.
