Happy New Year from Wasako!

During the New Year season in Japan, you may notice beautiful decorations called Kadomatsu placed at entrances and gates.
Did you know that these decorations are actually signposts to welcome Toshigami,

the Shinto deity believed to bring good fortune, health, and prosperity for the coming year?

Kadomatsu are traditional New Year decorations placed at the front of homes and buildings so that Toshigami can easily find their way to us.

A Kadomatsu is made from three symbolic plants: pine, bamboo, and plum, each carrying a special meaning.
Pine trees stay green all year round and represent longevity and eternal life.

They have long been believed to be sacred trees where gods reside.
Bamboo grows straight and strong, symbolizing growth, vitality, and life’s important milestones,

reflected in its natural segments.
Plum blossoms bloom bravely in the cold of winter, representing patience, hope, and prosperity.

Together, pine, bamboo, and plum express heartfelt wishes for happiness, health, and a prosperous new year.

Kadomatsu are traditionally placed in pairs on both sides of an entrance.

They serve as a welcoming marker—an entrance for Toshigami.
In short, you could say: “Kadomatsu are signposts to welcome the New Year deity.”

新年あけましておめでとうございます。

お正月の街並みを彩る「門松」。
実はこの門松、年神様をお迎えするための目印だということをご存じでしょうか。
門松は、年神様が迷わず私たちの元へ訪れてくださるよう、
門や玄関先に立てられる日本の伝統的な正月飾りです。

門松を構成する主な植物は、松・竹・梅。それぞれに大切な意味が込められています。
松は一年中緑を保つことから「長寿」や「不老不死」の象徴で、神様が宿る木とも考えられてきました。
竹はまっすぐに力強く伸びる姿から「成長」や「生命力」、また節があることから「人生の節目」を表します。
梅は厳しい寒さの中でいち早く花を咲かせることから、「忍耐」や「希望」、そして「繁栄」を意味します。
この松竹梅がそろうことで、新しい一年の幸せと健やかな日々を願う気持ちが表されているのです。

門松は、家の門や玄関の左右に一対で飾るのが一般的です。
年神様をお迎えするための“入口のしるし”として、古くから大切にされてきました。
つまり一言でいうと、「門松は年神様の目印なんですよ」というわけです。

和茶子-wasako-では、登録有形文化財である「茶寮一松」の趣ある和室にて、
古くから伝わる伝統文化である茶道を、どなたでも気軽に体験していただけます。
静かな畳の空間、凛とした佇まいの中で一服のお茶を味わう時間は、
新年の始まりにぴったりのひとときです。
日本の四季や行事に込められた意味を知ることで、日常が少し豊かに感じられるはず。

今日は大晦日。2025年の最後の日です。

和茶子-wasako-は開業から3年目ですので、3回目の年越しですが

今年も本当に、様々なことがありました。

今年の一番大きな出来事と言えば、一松さんへの引っ越しです。

前の店舗は設計士さんと打ち合わせを何度も重ねて、建築した店だったので

すごく悩んだけれど、引っ越しするって決断して本当に良かったです。

お客様の反応も良好ですし

前の店舗も、今の一松さんでの茶道体験も、両方ご覧いただいている

通訳さんやガイドさん達にも、とても好評です。

せっかくご縁をいただいた、素晴らしい環境で仕事をさせてもらっているので

来年も、新しく楽しいことをたくさん仕掛けていきます。

一松の女将さん、観音様、お客様、関わっていただいているお取引先様、家族や従業員、

全ての皆様に感謝申し上げます。

Today is New Year’s Eve, the final day of 2025.

For Wasako, this marks our third year since opening, and our third time welcoming the New Year.

So many things happened this year.

The biggest change was our move to Ichimatsu.

Our previous shop was carefully designed and built after countless meetings with the architect, so deciding to move was not easy. However, looking back now, I am truly glad we made that decision.

Our guests have responded very positively, and interpreters and guides who have experienced both the former location and our current tea ceremony space in Ichimatsu have also spoken highly of it.

As we have been given the opportunity to work in such a wonderful environment through meaningful connections, we plan to create many new and enjoyable experiences again next year.

I would like to express my deepest gratitude to everyone: the proprietress of Ichimatsu, Kannon-sama, our guests, our business partners, as well as our family and staff.
