“Taisho” (大暑) is one of the traditional 24 seasonal divisions in the Japanese calendar and refers to the hottest period of the year.

It usually falls between around July 22 and August 6, right in the middle of Japan’s intense summer season.

The word Taisho literally means:

“great heat”

This is the time when Japan’s rainy season ends, the sun becomes very strong, and the sound of cicadas fills the air.

Children begin their summer vacation, and cities throughout Japan take on a lively and energetic atmosphere.

In Asakusa as well, many summer events and festivals are held during this season, making the town especially vibrant and exciting.

Japanese summers are known for being hot and humid.

毎年7月22日頃から8月6日頃までの時期にあたり、本格的な夏の真っ只中です。

「大暑」は文字通り、「大いに暑い」という意味です。

梅雨が明け、強い日差しが照りつけ、蝉の声が響き渡る頃。

また、子どもたちは夏休みに入り、街全体がどこか開放的な空気に包まれます。
