the winter solstice 冬至

December 21st is the winter solstice.

The winter solstice is one of the 24 solar terms and marks the shortest day and longest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere.

It usually falls around December 21st to December 23rd.

On this day, the sun is at its southernmost position, so it rises later and sets earlier, making the days seem shorter.

The winter solstice was a special day for ancient people who were conscious of the rhythms of nature.

From this day onwards, the sun will begin to rise higher again and the length of the days will gradually increase.

For this reason, the winter solstice was considered a symbol of “rebirth” and “new beginnings.”

Until a few weeks ago, it wasn’t that cold, and I thought it was a warm winter, but since last week, it’s gotten really cold.

At Wasako, we serve matcha in a warm room.

Please come and visit the Wasako tea room.
