first day of spring.立春

Today is the beginning of spring.

According to the calendar, spring begins today.

I’m Shirokazu, the representative of Wasako and the blog writer, and I don’t like the cold, so I’m very happy about this.

I’m looking forward to it as I like spring wild vegetables such as butterbur sprouts, taros, kogomi, and bamboo shoots.

The photo shows a pot of peach blossoms that I took at Shoryutei Nishimura.

There were lots of lovely spring flowers in bloom.

Wasako also offers sweets with spring designs.

今日は立春。暦の上では今日から春です。

ブログを書いている、和茶子-wasako-代表の城和は

寒いのが苦手なので、とても嬉しいです。

春の山菜、ふきのとう、タラの芽、こごみ、筍なども好きなので楽しみです。

写真は昇龍亭西むらさんで撮らせてもらいました桃の花の鉢です。

可愛らしい春らしいお花がたくさん咲いていました。

和茶子-wasako-でも春のデザインのお菓子をご用意しております。

Japanese season, Setsubun.節分

Today is February 2nd, Setsubun.

Setsubun originally meant the division of seasons, and marked the change of seasons from spring to summer, autumn to winter.

However, in modern times the word specifically refers to the day before the beginning of spring.

On Setsubun, people throw beans with the hope of driving away demons and bringing good fortune.

While chanting “Oni wa soto! Fuku wa uchi!” (Demons out! Good fortune in!), roasted soybeans are scattered inside and outside the house.

It is said that if you eat the same number of beans as your age, you will stay healthy.

On Setsubun, holly branches with sardine heads are hung at the entrance of the house.

This is because the smell of sardines dislikes demons, and the thorns of the holly tree keep demons away.

It also seems that in some areas people eat Ehomaki on Setsubun.

It is said that by facing in the direction considered lucky for the year, called the lucky direction, and silently biting into the whole scroll while making a wish, you will bring good fortune.

The lucky direction for 2025 is south-southeast.

Knowing and participating in these traditional events is a way of honoring oneself and one’s ancestors.

Beans were also prepared and holly was decorated in the Wasako tea room.

Get rid of evil spirits and prepare for the new season.

 

2月2日、今日は節分です。

節分とは本来は、季節を分けるという意味のことばですので、

春夏秋冬それぞれの季節の変わり目を示していました。

しかし、現代では特に、立春の前日を指す言葉になっています。

 

節分には、鬼を追い払い、福を招くという願いを込めて豆まきをします。

「鬼は外！福は内！」と唱えながら、炒った大豆を家の中や外へまきます。

年齢の数だけ豆を食べると健康で過ごせると言われています。

 

節分の日には、柊の枝に鰯の頭を指して玄関に飾ります。

これは鬼が嫌がる鰯の匂いと、柊のトゲで鬼を寄せ付けないと言う意味があります。

 

また、節分の日に、恵方巻きを食べる地域もあるようです。

恵方という、その年に幸運だという方角を向いて、願いをこめて

無言で巻物を丸かじりすることで、福を呼び込むと言われています。

2025年の恵方は「南南東」です。

 

古くからの伝統行事の意味を知り、参加することは

祖先を敬い、自己を尊ぶ意味があります。

和茶子-wasako-の茶室でも、豆を用意し、柊を飾りました。

邪気を払って、新しい季節を迎える準備をしましょう。
